Why Holmes County?

Holmes County, Ohio is one of the most beautiful small town places in America. Thousands of people visit every year to admire this peaceful Midwest oasis. A devastating reality though, is that sexual abuse and domestic violence are happening in this quaint community.

Isaiah 58:12 says, “Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins and will raise up the age-old foundations; you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls, Restorer of Streets with Dwellings.” The mission of 58:12 Rescue is to provide a safe Christ-centered home for vulnerable women and children in our community that have been devastated by sexual abuse and/or domestic violence.

Our seven bedroom home can host up to six mothers and their children. Since 2014 we have helped over 400 women, and hosted 45 women and 37 children in our shelter. When our home is filled to capacity, we refer women to other shelters and local agencies for help and support. A resident mentor lives on site and works with each resident to customize a support plan to ensure progress toward healing, goal setting, and appropriate outcomes. Residents receive meals, clothes, care, mentoring, counseling, and emotional support.

Our dream is to have safe houses in other communities as expressions of our commitment to biblical justice and to care for those who have been abused and abandoned.

Professional Counseling

We have partnered with local counseling centers to ensure that each resident staying with us receives professional counseling. Required counseling ensures that all of our residents are provided with the opportunity to speak about their situation with someone they can trust and that has the tools to help them cope and heal. We have seen counseling provide women and children with the tools needed to promote self-healing, provide closure, and gain confidence to find value in themselves again.

Mentorship & Support Plans

Each resident is partnered with a mentor to create support plans and help with life-skills training. Our mentorship program focuses on weekly meetings to set goals and promote accountability to help each resident take the necessary steps to provide for themselves and their family after leaving our safe house. Life-skills training that our mentors assist with include things that will equip each woman for the future such as searching for housing, jobs, and transportation.
