When 58:12 Rescue was first established in Holmes County, someone donated a car to us to use as a means of transporting residents locally. Some of our residents are not comfortable driving their own vehicles through town, and some of our residents are Amish, so having a company car to use is an incredible blessing. At the beginning of December, we had a resident who moved out of our safe house once her term was up. While she was preparing to move out, her truck broke down to the point that fixing it would have cost more than the truck itself.
As a team, we decided that we wanted to gift her with our company car. In a community where walking everywhere is not feasible, especially with two children in school, we knew that her need was greater than ours. We have staff members that agreed to drive residents in their personal vehicles as needed, which made us confident in our decision to donate the car.
The same week that we decided to gift the car, someone donated a van to 58:12 Rescue! This was an incredible blessing that has already benefitted our staff and residents. We are now able to drive up to six people at a time, which comes in handy for our larger families (currently, our largest family is a family of ten!).
